OK, so it was only 16 degrees outside and the eclipse started at 8pm and lasting until after 11pm. And, yes, I stayed outside the entire time. I did have to come in for a different lens and a fresh battery but other than that, I stayed outside watching the eclipse. It is cool to watch with the naked eye but through a 300mm lens, you can see so much more! I really wanted to use my 400mm but my tripod was slipping with the weight of the 28-300mm so it never would have held the 400mm. Jamie is so happy that I am ready to shop for a super sturdy and much taller tripod (not really - he doesn't think I could possible need any more camera equipment!) Anyways, here are a few shots from the eclipse. The first phot is from the beginning of the eclipse as the moon slipped behind the earth's shadow (about 8:08pm). The second is as the sun hit the moon again as it came out of the eclipse (about 10:15pm). The third was once the moon started to come out of the earths shadow (about 10:39pm). Finally, the fourth is as the eclipse was just about complete and the moon looked almost normal again (about 11:06pm).
Thanks for looking!
